Class Name: Around the World with Pictures Books: Lower Grammar 1 and 2

    This week’s focus: Getting Started!

Welcome to an exciting year of reading fantastic picture books together as we travel around the globe! For the first two months we will be exploring China and I am already excited to share with your child (and you) our first book on our Zoom class on September 18th! Check out the year plan in the RESOURCES tab.

In preparation for Schole support class:

If you have the Maps book, look at the World Map on page 4-5.
Former LG 1 students or siblings of older students coming in LG1, do you remember the continent song? If so, sing it once or twice this week! Or the Oceans song? If you are new to Schole, do not to worry! You will hear these tunes sung on Friday.
What do you see on these pages that you are curious about? What do you wonder about? Note where we live and the continent of Asia that we will be traveling to (page 42) and talk about it’s size.

    To be completed this week:

Maps page 48-49 – Look at the icons on these pages at two different times this week. What do you and your child wonder about?
Writing with Ease – Week 1

ENRICHMENT – Extra resources for children and families who desire more
    – I will provide more detail next week once you have settled into a rhythm and routine with all the other language learning resources.

This will be given later in the month after we enjoy a book together.

Please contact heather@atrbenefits.com with any questions and submissions.

Class Name: History for Lower Grammar Students (optional)
This week’s focus: Colonies Formed / The Great Awakening
    For Parent:
    • As desired, parent and student together read or listen to weekly lessons in Mystery of History text. It is rewarding to read lessons together with siblings and mom, or as an entire family. (The text is not written for Lower Grammar students but they can follow along gleaning understanding as they are able. The read aloud will bring the “living” context.
    • Optional hands on activities for younger age (grades 1 to 4) can be found in the Companion Guide.
    • A class on Thursday over Zoom will focus on a portion of the weekly lesson.
    • Lower Grammar are encouraged to bring weekly coloring sheet posted in the History section of the Resource Library to Zoom class to neatly and carefully color while listening to the weekly history lesson.
    • A copy of timeline song lyrics to memorize are in the History section of the Resource Library. (A melody for a potential song is in the working, no promises.) Thanks to Jolene Friesen for working on the lyrics! Weekly actions will be added during the Zoom class.
In preparation for Schole support class:
    • Begin reading MOH text ~ Lessons 1, 2, 3
    • Optional: bring coloring page to class (work on while listening)
    To be completed this week:
    • Complete Reading/Listening to Lessons 1 to 3
