    Music Gr. 1-2

    Our hymn for this month is Be Thou My Vision. Here is a video with the lyrics. Please print the music so that you can follow along (posted in the Resource Library under Music).

    This month, we are studying world music. Please watch this video of two Balafon players from Mali. (It’s 9 minutes long, so you can just watch part of it.) As you watch, how would you describe the music? Does the Balafon remind you of other instruments you know?

    For Tuesday’s Zoom lesson, please bring your homemade instrument and 12 pens, pencils, or Popsicle sticks for rhythm writing.

    This week’s focus: India

    Sing the continent song this week while you point them out on pages 4-5 of the Map book.

    We are still in the continent of Asia but traveling this week to yet another large country – India. Can you use the Table of Contents at the front of the Maps book to find which page you will find India?

    Look at the many icons. What do you wonder about? Notice? Anything familiar it makes you think of? I notice the Lotus Flower at the top left of the page and it makes me think of Thailand and Vietnam.

    Do you recognize any of the animals, flowers, landscape features that are similar to other countries we have studied so far this year? Any new animals, flowers or land features?

    During our Tuesday and Friday class during the week of Jan. 4th, we will be reading the book, Once a Mouse by Marcia Brown and discussing the concept of humility.
