    Class Name: Art

    This week’s focus: Shape

In preparation for next Art Support Session (Oct. 6):

    – Watch the Lesson 2 Video, which can be found at: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hRUoPdcxFq8&t=36s (all grades watch the same video this week)

    – Do the Lesson 2 Warm-Ups: http://www.calgaryclassicalschole.ca/wp-content/uploads/gravity_forms/1-3e0c424b174623071e187e08ff5fe3d4/2020/09/Drawing-Warm-Ups-Lesson-2.pdf

    – Begin Drawing Project #2 http://www.calgaryclassicalschole.ca/wp-content/uploads/gravity_forms/1-3e0c424b174623071e187e08ff5fe3d4/2020/09/Drawing-Project-2.pdf This drawing project was taken from the “Draw Write Now” series, and it guides students through the step-by-step process of breaking down subject matter into basic shapes and lines. Due to the wide range of ages and skill levels at Schole, some Grade 5 students may find this assignment a little too easy. Students wanting more of a challenge are invited to do the Lesson #2 Art Project for Grades 7-9 if that is preferable (found in the Resource Library).

Notes: Thank you for submitting Art Project #1 to Ms. Catherine. Kindly submit Art Project #2 by Friday, October 9.

Please contact Ms. Catherine with any questions, concerns, and student submissions at gchardy@telus.net

    Music Grade Five

Amazing Grace – What is the meaning of “wretch”? What does it mean “ Was blind but now I see”?
As you sing Amazing Grace keep a three beat pattern – pat clap clap to represent the
TIME SIGNATURE. We will be discussing that this week

Rocky Mountain High – Sing with the rhythm syllables.
Together we will review the notes of the melody – do, re, mi so and la

Let’s use your non-pitched percussion instruments to play along. This week we will learn the different families of non pitched percussion instruments.

Ah vous dirai je Maman- Together we will sing with the rhythm syllables and solfa

Class Name: History for Grammar Students
This week’s focus: The French and Indian War
    For Parent:
    • Parent and student together read or listen to weekly lessons in Mystery of History text. It is rewarding to read lessons together with siblings and mom, or as an entire family. (This approach leads to great family discussions!)
    • Optional hands on activities for younger (grades 1 to 4) and middle age (grades 5 to 8) can be found in the Companion Guide.
    • Mapping exercises for various ages are available in Companion Guide for printing. Answer keys are also available.
    • A Zoom class on Thursday will focus on a portion of the weekly lesson.
    • Students, especially younger students, are encouraged to bring weekly coloring sheet and/or timeline figure posted in the History section of the Resource Library to Zoom class to neatly and carefully color while listening to the weekly history lesson.
    • Optional: Middle and Upper Grammar students, you may choose to create a weekly sketchbook page using the coloring page and/or the time line figure.
    • Building a timeline is strongly recommended using the week’s focus to narrow down which figures to feature. (https://themysteryofhistory.com/store/the-mystery-of-history-volume-iv/volume-iv-convenience-products/htta-volume-iv-cardstock/)
    • A change: We will memorize the time line cards. Each week I will add another card to learn while always reviewing each card learnt. KEEP these cards in a place where you can review them regularly. Weekly actions will be added during the Zoom class.

In preparation for Schole support class:
    • Begin reading MOH text ~ Lessons 7,8 (only 2 lessons this week)
    • Optional: Bring coloring page and/or timeline page to class (work on while listening).
    • Map #3 in Companion Guide (also posted in Resource Library) is helpful as a reference (option is to print and bring to class).

    To be completed this week:
    • Complete Reading/Listening to Lessons 7,8
    • History read aloud (A list can be found in Appendix A of the Curriculum Guide.)

    Well Ordered Language 2 A

This week’s focus: Chapter 2 ADVERBS

In preparation for Schole support class:

    CHAPTER 2 ADVERBS

IN CLASS THIS WEEK we will be teaching/reviewing adverbs as detailed on page 33. Students will be working through starting on section A in class, and continuing after class.

    To be completed this week:

Read through page 29-32 about adverbs, chapter 3.
The “rubber starts to hit the road” here, with parents also being reminded of the questions HOW when analyzing sentences

Please put a sticky note for your and your student reference to page 12/13 for the script
TRUST ME< it sounds awkward but it will help you down the path if you do the script for each sentence.

REVIEW TERMS USING THE CD SONGS 1-7

Reading Page 32/33 with your student would be helpful preparation for class.

PLEASE ENCOURAGE the USE OF A SMALL RULER, such as found in math geometry sets.
Neatness will be useful as the sentence diagramming gets more elaborate.
Having the small ruler or triangle from the mathset for each time doing lessons would be helpful.

PLEASE NOTE, the upcoming Quiz on Chapter 1
I am working on getting a digital version on the Schole@home, including answers for parents.

ENRICHMENT – Extra resources for children and families who desire more

P32. Address an envelope with your student. They can send mail to a grandparent, friend, or schole tutor.
Teach them proper abbreviations…and introduce them to the fine art of letter writing.
