MUSIC: Grades 1-2
Watch George Meets the Orchestra (6 min. video) to learn more about the conductor and the orchestra.
Listen to Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 4 Finale “Allegro con fuoco”
Which instruments do you hear? Can you pretend you are the conductor or one of the musicians?
**We will be working on writing rhythms using Popsicle sticks, or pencils or straws. Your child will need 12 of them for Tuesday’s Zoom class. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at aperlau@mtroyal.ca

This week’s focus: Japan
To be completed this week:
As almost half the class participates in the lesson on Tuesday, I am moving the book for this week into the Enrichment section. Complete if you have time or as you are able or during the upcoming rest week. This week on both Tuesday and Friday we will be reading and discussing Grandfather’s Journey.
*On page 56-57 of the Maps book is the country of Japan. Continue with discussions about icons that you wonder about and those you notice? Is there something you didn’t find the last time you looked? Pick one icon you are curious about and together with your mom do some research.
*Writing with Ease – Week 9

Read the book The Tale of the Mandarin Ducks by Katherine Paterson. It is considered a folktale, where the author uses anthropomorphism – a literary device where animals are given human characteristics. Discuss the meaning of these unusual words: drake, samurai, plumage, manor house and retainer prior to reading or listening.
Here is the link to listen to it on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okJuy53awiI
Please email me if you would like a list of questions to ask after reading, if you do not have the Around the World with Picture Books. (Lesson 4 page 23)Colour the mandarin duck that was attached with last week’s sheets and add it to your Adventure Journal, with the title of the book.
THIS MONTH’S ASSIGNMENT FOR SUBMISSION:
One photocopy of an adventure journal entry by November 30, 2020 OR a page of copywork from Writing with Ease to be submitted to Ms. Monica.
