Class Name: Grade 8/9 Literature 2

This week’s focus: Character

To be completed this week:

Have as much of Huck Finn read as possible.

As we consider the character of Huck Finn answer the following questions in point form (with as much detail as possible) this week on blank sheet of paper that you keep in a binder, or a notebook:

Who is Huck Finn? Consider his age, his personality, thoughts about what is most important in life, the growth in his personality. How does Huck change and develop over the course of the book?

Who else is the story about? Is there anyone who opposes him, what actions do they take? List as many characters as possible and the way they antagonize Huck and Jim.

As we discussed in class, you will be receiving participation marks for contributing to the Google document on quotes which support the river and land comparison. Click on this link.

After you have typed in your supporting evidence, under the heading that best supports it, make sure you put your name in brackets after your quote. Livia sent me a quote today, so follow her example.

The Art of Poetry – Chapter 3 – Symbols. On the Activity page, choose 1 or 2 to complete that interest you.

ENRICHMENT – Extra resources for children and families who desire more

Memorize the poem, The Highwayman Part 2
How many of you feel confident to write a thesis statement for a comparative essay about the river and the land? Consider writing one or two out, using the consolidated ideas generated from our class discussion.
