Class Name: Literature – Grade 1/2
This week’s focus: Welcome to India
Sing the continent song this week while you point them out on pages 4-5 of the Map book. Show your parents where we live and where India in Asia is.
Using the pages attached:
1. Create a title page for India in your Adventure journal. Cut and colour the map and the flag and print the word India at the top of the page and glue them in.
2. On the next page, after the title page on India, cut and colour the tiger. Glue into journal. Write a sentence about the Tiger in Once a Mouse, by Marcia Brown.
Questions to support discussion:
*What is a fable?
*What was the moral of this story?
*What does peacocking mean?
*Did the tiger remember what the hermit had done for him? Was he thankful?
*Or copy the sentence: The tiger did not learn to be humble and was not grateful for all the times the hermit protected him.
Writing with Ease – Week 14
ENRICHMENT – Extra resources for children and families who desire more
*Discover the 5 large oceans in the world. Do you know which is the largest ocean? Smallest? Warmest? Coldest?
*Spy the decorated elephant on 52 of the map book. Decorate your own Indian Elephant in the attached sheets.
*Find an interesting fact about the peafowl, the one horned rhinoceros or the snow leopard. Write about what you learned on another page in your journal and colour the picture found on the attached sheets.
