Class Name Writing & Rhetoric 9/10
This week’s focus: Writing & Rhetoric 10 Lesson 1 Quintilian and the Classical Ideal: First Strive for Goodness
We get to start a NEW BOOK!!! Writing and Rhetoric Book 10: Thesis part 1.
In preparation for Schole support class:
Lesson 1 to 6 develop the vital aspects of writing a thesis essay from the opening hook to the conclusion paragraph.
You will be crafting persuasive essays with expository, descriptive, and narrative elements.
A persuasive essay cannot stand by itself. To persuade it needs:
Compelling information (exposition)
Vivid word pictures (description)
Engaging stories (often in summary form)
The persuasive writer marshals all these elements together in one seamless and extended argument.
Please read pages 1 to 5. Do the tell it back section so we discuss it in class: Page 6.
We will also work on the write and discuss exercises.

Work on go deeper for the week.
THIS MONTH’S ASSIGNMENT FOR SUBMISSION:
From Lesson 10: submit a 4 paragraph impersonation essay for end of February. Rubric is on page 152. You may choose to do it on any of the 3: Henry Williamson, Jesse Owens, or Winston Churchill.
